2020 - 2021

La Salle Institute offers wrestling as a winter sport for boys and girls in 7-12th grade at the Varsity, JV, and Modified levels. We are a member of NYSPHAA Section II Class CC and the Colonial Council. In addition to league dual meets, we attend a variety of local and regional tournaments to compete against a range of in-state and out-of-state talent.
We believe that learning the technical aspects of the sport and working hard at physical conditioning leads to success on, and off, the mat. The sport benefits wrestlers through stressing attention to detail, accountability, and dedication that transfer well to other aspects of life. Also, we find that the skills wrestlers learn during the season improve performance in other sports and vice versa.
Our practices include a combination of learning, drilling technique, wrestling live, strength training, and physical conditioning. Weight management is an important aspect of the sport, we focus on healthy eating habits and consistency year-round to meet goals, not extreme weight-loss methods.
We encourage wrestlers to participate in the offseason from March to August at local, state, regional, and national tournaments through joining local wrestling clubs. La Salle coaches will continue to mentor wrestlers through the offseason.
All La Salle students, experienced or new to the sport, are invited to try-out each November.
