Welcome Visitors,

The La Salle Institute Social Studies Department is committed to the idea of a Christian, student-centered education as the cornerstone of our curriculum. We see ourselves as existing for the purpose of teaching students how to function in a multi-cultural, increasingly interdependant, technological and information oriented world.

This is partly achieved through transmitting to our students a greater awareness, understanding, and appreciation of different peoples and cultures, especially in the non-western world. The department believes in fostering this awareness and understanding through the study of various historical forces and cultural developments in selected societies. In addition an understanding of the role and position of the United States in this quickly changing "global village" is an important component of our curriculum. That students should learn the shared cultural values and the unique historical experience is fundamental to good citizenship.

Lastly, I personally believe that our Social Studies Department comprises one of the most caring and professional teaching staff in the capital district area.

Thank you,
Kenneth Bentley
