La Salle Institute

Religious Studies Department

The Religious Studies Department here at LaSalle focuses on two primary objectives: increasing student knowledge of the Catholic Faith and helping each student grow in his relationship with Almighty God. To that end we offer courses in Sacred Scripture, Moral Decision Making, Church History, World Religions, Christian Life Styles, Apologetics, and the Sacramental Life of the Church.

Each student, from 6th to 12th grade must take a religion course each year during his “career” at LaSalle Institute. Our teachers are well-versed in subject-matter knowledge, and understand that subject matter, well-taught and understood, is an important adjunct in our journey along the path to union with God.  They encourage class participation and student discussion as a means of helping students assimilate factual data, and of clarifying their understanding of that data. While our curriculum is built on the doctrine and teaching of the Catholic Church, we emphasize both tolerance of and respect for other religions as paths to God. Our experience is that students enjoy the Religious Studies Curriculum here at LaSalle, and generally grow spiritually as a significant result of that Curriculum.
